Maryland ranks as the seventh highest state in cost of living, making it increasingly difficult for lower-income families to make ends meet. With rising costs of food, gas, utilities, and housing, imposing a beverage tax would only add to the financial strain on working families. Such taxes disproportionately affect local businesses and their employees, jeopardizing not only their livelihoods but also the 3,861 jobs the beverage industry supports in Maryland.

Now is not the time to add further burdens to those already struggling to get by.
